18 Turkish Foods You Never Knew Existed

1. Mozaik Pasta

Don't be confused by the name...this is CAKE. Double chocolate with biscuit, in fact. Amahzing.

2. Lahmacun

This is not your average flatbread. It's a flatbread topped with minced meat, salad and lemon juice, AKA best flatbread EVER.

3. Kofte

These are turkish meatballs, made of beef or lamb. But don't they look just a LITTLE tastier than American meatballs?

4. Lokum

Turkish goodness made out of nougat and just about every flavor you could ever imagine.

5. Su Boregi

It's sort of like lasagna, except with something closer to pastry dough than noodles.

6. Borek

Pastry with a SUPER savory twist. Meat or spinach/cheese fill these bad boys, and they are to die for.

7. Baklava

OK, you might have heard of this one...but we had to include it because it's SO good!

8. Meze

Kind of like Turkish tapas (awesome), but unlike tapas, almost all of the small plates are served cold.

9. Sis Kebab

Meat on a stick came from the Turkish! You really should thank them.

10. Dolma

Dolma is more often than not a stuffed grape vine leaf, but can actually be ANY stuffed vegetable.

11. Gullac

This is a traditional dessert for Ramadan, but it's delicious all the time. The rosewater and pomegranate seeds are a BIG part of that.

12. Kazu Tandir

The best way to eat lamb—after being slow roasted whole, and hung for god knows how long. It's delectable.

13. Manti

It's like ravioli but funkier, always with beef or lamb and with a delicious extra kick due to the addition of yogurt.

14. Pilav

This is how the Turks do rice. It's super buttery, it's toasted, and it's just wonderful.

15. Kayisi Tatlisi

Cream and nut stuffed apricots. Proof that though they love their savory meals, the Turks know a thing or two about sweets!

17. Baklali Enginar

This is a great summer dish, full of artichokes, oil and fresh parsley.

17. Menemen

Think scrambled eggs, but with a whole lot more tasty veggies and delicious flair.

18. Pide

Pie? No, pide! It's Turkish pizza, but always super savory and always in these badass little boats.
